Yes: The early treatment is focused on the fracture, the long term treatment focuses on soft tissue healing. When bones fracture they release a tremendous amount of energy into the soft tissues. We often don't focus on this part of the injury because you can't see it on x-rays but it affects the healing process long after the fracture has healed. Some patients experience some swelling for a year.
