Don't touch!!!: Cold sores are caused by herpes virus which is contagious and can be spread by touching, so don't touch! when it starts, little fluid filled bumps appear which contain the virus. The area may itch or burn. When they break, the area will ooze and a crust or scab will form. There may be bleeding, there are over the counter remedies or your doctor can prescribe an antiviral medication.
