Exciting time: Stay away from topical anesthetics. Use chilled teethers. Draw milk into pacifier, freez it, and give it to your baby. Good luck.

Fever not from teeth: A high fever is not typically related to teething. Baby may be very cranky for a few days. Cold items like chilled teething ring can help. Chewing on a teething biscuit and rubbing the gum with a cold cloth can also help. If necessary, tylenol (acetaminophen) in proper dose can be given.

Be brave: It's hard on the baby, and hard on you. Baby will be fussy, drool a lot, mouth everything in sight, may have loss of appetite and diarrhea. If your child runs a temp of 100.5 or more, see pediatrician (because it's not from teething). When 1st tooth erupts make appointment with pediatric dental specialist for hygiene/diet/fluoride/sealants advice and so your child can bond w the pedodontist.
