Prominent vein: Normal prominent vein should not be painful. If it is irritated for some reason called phlebitis may make it sensitive

It sounds like an: inflammatiion of the vein. Put some moist heat on it every few hrs and take a baby aspirin a day.It could be a phlebitis, which is an inflammation and blood clot of the vein. NOT dangerous.
