Possible infection: The obese part of the stomach is sometimes called a pannus and can get infected forming a panniculitis (type of cellulitis). Pain, redness, warmth, hardness and swelling are signs of an infection and required antibiotics. The symptoms you described can be early signs of an infection and required further evaluation.
