Fat versus muscle.: Muscle tissue is more dense than fat, so for a given size of tissue, muscle will weight more than fat. If you're losing muscle, you'll lose weight. But the muscle does not turn into fat. What may have happened was that the muscle lessened while the fat stayed the same, so definition/shape reduced.
