Both grandfathers and my mom had alzheimer's. i'm 73 and have symptoms. drs. are pushing airecept -- i don't want to be drugged into submission.

What else do you...: ...propose? There are currently no cures for Alzheimer's, but some medications that may have been offered to you can at least in some patients in the early stages slow progression. (*Not sure what "drugged into submission" even means in your case.)

Approach: If you are developing a dementia, it could be Alzheimer's , but could be caused by different mechanism. Have your doctors checked for infections, vitamin deficiencies, thyroid problems, elevation of homocysteine, medication or alcohol reactions? Have they explained why Aricept, (donepezil) as we have medical foods, such as Axona, phosphtidyl serine, Cerefolin-NAC, and other memory enhancing agents.
