A member asked:

85 yo mom has mri showing "hippocampal atrophy without definite asymmetry" in brain. no other major issues. she has memory issues and mood changes. could this be a normal brain considering her age? is this likely alzheimer's?

From the portion quoted in your post, her MRI interpretation is not apparently stated as "normal for age". This could be conceivably consistent with Alzheimer's disease. But there is more to confirming such a diagnosis. A neurologist should be involved in her care. Discuss the entire picture with your doctors.
