Hit leg: Sounds like contusion with hematoma and periosteal reaction. It will get smaller and usually goes away but some people will have a permanent "hard spot".

Varies: There are a number of possibilities, among them is a contusion to the bone itself. Don't hesitate to be seen for an accurate diagnosis.
