Red tonsils: The redness is a sign of inflammation. Tonsils are a lymph gland that can swell with any type of infection. They trap dead/dying white blood cells. The blood is likely from the raw surface due to swelling - and the pus is likely from a low grade viral infection you have. Are you running a fever? I would monitor it for several days. If it continues you should see a doctor.
