This stool pattern: can be entirely normal. It may suggest a longer transit time and a good amount of dietary fiber. It is not a typical symptom of colorectal cancer. If this change happened 5 years ago and nothing further has developed, I would be comfortable saying this is normal. But, safest would be discussing with doctor for consideration of colonosocpy; flat stool may suggest obstruction by mass or IBS
