Varies: The vast majority of clavicle fractures heal well without surgery; but there are specific cases where surgery is recommended. Delayed or nonunions is one time surgery can be considered as can fractures the involve the lateral third of the bone among other indications. I would not hesitate to discuss the pros and cons of your treatment options.
