You know what to do: See a Periodontist, a gum/bone specialist. You have infected gums, and probably a rather intensive case. Infection can readily spread to other organ systems and has been associated with stroke, heart disease, kidney infections, etc. You need a specialist, and you need to go now. This is not a DIY problem. Get help.

See DDS first: Many variables- when was your last though examination and cleaning? It may be as simple as the need for a professional cleaning. If the dentist feels that the gingival health is adequate and there is no need for further scaling and root planing, hygiene instructions or need for additional hygiene appointments, you may be referred to your primary MD for a work-up.
