A member asked:

I had unprotected vaginal sex with a man in barbados. 3 days after i got a cough, fever, diarrhea, muscle aches. lasting 3-4 days. could this be hiv?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Too soon to know: You should get a HIV test. If it is negative, get a HIV nucleic acid test about 6 months after the episode of sex in question. If the HIV nucleic acid test is negative at 6 months after exposure, you would be free of HIV. Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, low fat milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. Practice safe sex. Get HPV vaccine.
