Sore Gums and Frenum: Good afternoon; In many instances the frenulum of a person's tongue has a whitish look. Could have suffered some tongue trama, oral sexual activities, fibrous hyperplasia or even an aphthous stomatitis(cold sore). Sore gums may have a variety of causes; poor oral hygiene, stress, improper home care technique and even early periodontal disease. Consider contacting a dentist or periodontist.

Normal and not: Frenum is a cord of connective tissue that has limited vascularization and therefore normally appears white. Sore gums are not normal, and may indicate progressive gum disease. Please make an appointment for an examination with your Dentist as soon as possible.
