Try again...: It might be necessary to begin another round of a perhaps different, anti fungal medication. Removing the toenail, has the potential to cause thickening of the nail by damaging the nail root. If this is the case, the nail may slowly, if ever, return to it's normal thickness. The thickness of the nail due to trauma or fungal infection is often hard to differentiate. A specialist is often needed.
