Being in a cast: or splint during the healing phase of an ankle phase will give calf atrophy. This will be reversed in most patients and get better over time. Plantar fasciitis and achilles injuries are not directly from calf atrophy. They can be from overuse of one leg while the other is healing after an injury. Yes, plantar fasciitis can also be cured.

Weakest Link theory.: You must have had one heck of a sprain in order to be wearing a cast long enough that would cause calf atrophy. The immobility could have also caused some residual stiffness of the ankle and associated joints. These post immobilization problems can alter your normal ankle and foot mechanics and lead to temporary arch and Achilles problems. Physical therapy could be the ticket to a swift recovery.
