Healed and no pain: It generally takes 6 weeks for a metacarpal fracture to heal. At the 6 week mark, x-rays are usually ordered to confirm healing. When the fracture has healed, it is not painful to pressure and you have no pain with work activities it is safe to go back to heavy work. This may take 8-12 weeks total.
