Yes: He should see someone who is trained in diagnosis and treatment of back/spine issues. While physicians in many specialties might be able to work up a back problem, i would suggest looking for someone who has completed an accredited pain fellowship. This ensures that the person has been trained (it does not ensure the person is the nice or ethical though).
