Pericardial disease: Pericardial thickening & effusion (excess fluid in the sac around the heart) can be caused by a number of conditions including viral or idiopathic pericarditis (inflammation caused by a virus or by other unknown causes), or auto-immune illnesses such as systemic lupus. It would be important to get more details (including why was the MRI done?) Consider an inbox consult here on HealthTap.
