Very close veins.: This is one of those situations that is best treated with a direct eyes on and hands on evaluation. A medical history as well as history of onset are essential. Have your general practitioner have the first look. If symptoms should escalate, then skip waiting for your G.P. and try urgent care.

Elevation: If the discoloration is associated with leg swelling and/or Varicose veins, elevation of the legs will be beneficial. Compression with stocking also will help. The painful side may be at risk for a venous stasis ulceration and if not improved with compression and elevation will need to be evaluated.
