Use these together: The blood test you are referring to is the PSA which measures a chemical more commonly released by an inflammed or cancerous prostate. The urologist will feel the prostate through the rectum (not a big deal;) and can tell whether it is enlarged, nodular or asymetrical which can be suspicious for cancer. These two tests alone answer only part of the question and should be taken together.
