A member asked:

How frequently does intestinal metaplasia turn into cancer without the presence of h pylori? i'm 29 years old and healthy with the following scenario.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

1-10% per year: H.pylori test should also include tests for H.pylori stool antigen, urea breath test, serology (if it was negative on biopsy). If you have +family history or are of certain ethnic background (non-Caucasian), you should consider surveillance endoscopies with mapping biopsies. The decision is also guided by the appearance of the metaplasia (is it extensive or incomplete?). good luck!
