Tachycardia: This rapid heart rate is inappropriate for someone at rest. Possible causes include fever, anxiety, overactive thyroid, excessive caffeine, nicotine or alcohol. If the heart rate remains over 100/min, go to the hospital emergency room where an examination, blood tests and an ekg can be done to determine the actual heart rate and rhythm.
