Yes, but . . .: Clot dissolving medications can worsen a hemorrhagic stroke by enlarging the hemorrhage. This medication was most likely given to your grandmother as an attempt to rapidly treat an ischemic stroke. Time is of the essence to preserve brain and such medications need to be given as quickly as possible. It is unusual, however, for EMS to give this medications as this is usually done in ER after CT.
