A member asked:

What is the mechanism by which scientists or nutritionists determine calories in foods?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Parr bomb: They use a device called a parr bomb which combusts a measured quantity of food and the heat derived is measured and is a direct reflection of the caloric content. It is quite accurate although not all food companies supply correct information as they do want to sell their products.
