It depends: On many factors as to if you'll need to take forever. How you've done in therapy, your family and medical history, etc. How it affects you may depend upon side effects, how side effects are addressed now, dosing, treatment response, etc. Please discuss with your provider how you’re doing on your current med regimen. Not a good idea: to take any anti-anxiety or anti-depressant medication for life, unless medical or psychological conditions are severe enough to warrant. This is a medical and psychological judgment call, and is rare. The usual time these meds are taken is 6 months, and then re-assessed, thinned or stopped--with supervision. If Sx's return, meds are usually re-started, usually for longer, but not for life..
