My aunt had an appendectomy last week and shes experiencing very strong gas pain. is there anything safe that she can take to relieve the gas pain ?

Sure: If it's just crampy gas pain (no fevers over 101, vomiting or severe/worsening constant pain in abdomen) then simethicone is a safe over the counter anti gas medication. It's very likely she may be constipated too. If so, one or two doses of Milk of Magnesia (magnesium hydroxide) may help.

Stop the narcotics: Take Motrin or Aleve (naproxen) for pain. If it's stomach gas try Gas-X (Symethacone) OTC
