Yes: With laparoscopic appendectomy there is alway a certain amount of inflammation in the region of the cecum and adjacent rt. colon. There can also be a minimal degree of ileus or lack of peristalsis in the bowel causing gas accumulation and retrograde motion of gas or belching. One should wait several wks for resolution.
