Good questions: B"sd the only way to get rid of a nodule is by surgery. Taking thyroid hormone was used in the past, but for true (not pseudo) nodules this probably does not work. Commonly, for nodules over 1 cm a needle biopsy is done to exclude cancer or precancer. If the biopsy is negative then follow up on the nodule by ultrasound is done to make sure it is not growing and need antoher biopsy or surgery.

R.O. Ca: The presence of a solitary nodule in the thyroid is always suspicious. If the lesion is discrete on sono and firm on palpation one must r.o Ca. If the nodule were cold, not producing thyroxine it would be a standard reason for resection. With hypothyroidism the lesion is probably cold. FNA often misses the pathology. To count on surgery or not based on the path report is not always justified.
