A member asked:

Getting ct scan for sinuses done in two weeks. have constant congestion, loss of smell/taste. issues swallowing. could scan show issues swallowing?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

No: A CT of the sinuses is a very focused study, and while it does show the back of the throat, tonsils, adenoids, this is all stuff the doctor can see just by looking in your mouth so the CT adds nothing to the evaluation for swallowing. It will get some fantastic pictures of your sinuses though and is primarily used to determine if surgery or balloon sinuplasty may be helpful.
