Constant: intestinal muscle waves of contraction, back & forth, called peristalsis, under both brain & local control, is what mixes the ~7 liters/day of water excreted from blood stream into intestines to mix with food into a thin watery soup; the motion both mixing digestive enzymes with/break-down food molecules & constantly changing intestinal wall exposure for selective absorption. Air in water gurgles.
