A member asked:

Does hypothyroidism heal on its own?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Hypothyroidism: Most hypothyroidism is caused by Hashimoto's thyroiditis, which causes progressive loss of thyroid function. Once you are fully hypothyroid, the gland will not usually come back. There is a condition called subacute thyroiditis, where the thyroid is painful, inflammed, maybe temporarily hypothyroid, but then heals. Postpartum thyroiditis can also behave like this.
