Impingement: A pinching of an intercostal nerve or muscle which runs between two ribs likely occurred during a slight strain of the rib cage.This discomfort would be exacerbated by a deep breath, cough or movement of the rib cage. This usually resolves in a few days. See your physician if you have further concerns.
