Sprain/tendonitis: A sprain is common in the lateral ankle area however peroneal tendonitis can happen too. There are, of course, other reasons however maybe your doctor can pinpoint the reason for your pain anatomically.

Several things: Tendinitis of the peroneals, possible ligament sprain, or a inflammatory condition to the ankle joint. Try rest and OTC anti inflammatory medication. If no improvement, see your local Dr.
