Where in back?: Is it the soft area behind one of the side bones (outside or inside of foot)? Is it by your tendon in the back of the foot?

Remove all doubt.: In all the possible areas you describe, a sustained sharp pain for any length of time, should be evaluated. Nothing good comes from symptoms like yours, especially, when they originate in the those locations. You need to be evaluated by a ankle specialist to remove all doubt.
