A member asked:

Thyroid biopsy cold nodule showed follicular cells 2x4cm. being sent out for generic testing? will this show if it's benign?

This is a good question and not totally resolved in the thyroid cancer field. On needle aspiration, it is often impossible to distinguish between a follicular adenoma (benign) or follicular cancer. The genetic tests theoretically help make the distinction. But they are not perfect. Many doctors would send you to a good thyroid surgeon and remove a 2x4 cm thyroid nodule with follicular cells.
