Neither are ideal: The gold standard treatment for allergic rhinitis are daily intranasal corticosteroid sprays and not antihistamines or Singulair (montelukast). Cetirizine and Singulair (montelukast) can be used as adjunctive therapy, but are not first line. Cold symptoms from a virus is another story, best treated with symptomatic management including rest, hydration, saline rinses, time, etc.
