Is it safe to take a .25 mg xanax (alprazolam) 2 or 3 times a week while taking 50mg of 5htp a day? any worry of serotonin issues?

No: no there should not be any issues because Xanax does not increase serotonin levels. Xanax can be taken along with serotonin reuptake inhibitors like Prozac or Paxil (paroxetine) of Zoloft so it should be fine with 5 HTP theoretically. Although, there are not studies on supplements interaction with meds, so no one can say for sure.
