OK: It's ok to start with half a pill. Suggest being careful with xanax (alprazolam). Do not drink alcohol with it. Xanax (alprazolam) can be problematic to discontinue.

Sounds good: You said your prescription instructs 1/2 to 1 three times a day, so you taking 1/2 is within the range of what your doctor instructed. As long as you are feeling better, you don't have to take a whole tablet. If you are still not sure, you can ask your doctor to confirm.
