Weaning off Xanax (alprazolam) : Yes it would be advisable to wean off under the supervision of a doctor - abruptly stopping xanax (alprazolam) can be dangerous and there is a high risk of seizures.

Possibly: It is rarely a good idea to stop taking most psych meds suddenly. You are taking 0.375 to 0.5 mg of xanax (alprazolam) for only a month. I don't have enough info to know which anxiety disorder you have. I would discuss this with your prescribing doctor. I believe in slow tapering of benzodiazepines in general, but the particulars of your case could make tapering unnecessary. Psychopharmacology is very much the art of knowing our patients and their illnesses and placing them on medication and taking them off medication appropriately and elegantly. Best wishes.
