No: The ACL ligament will not heal on its own. Even when surgery is done, it is not repaired. Another structure, usually a tendon, is harvested and used in its place. If a person is low demand, they can sometimes do ok with out surgery, alrhough they may need a brace. Most reasonably active people need surgery as the ACL is the major stabilizer of the knee.
