Due to absorption.: Food has been found to have a measurable impact on the rate of absorption with the 20-mg (and 15-mg) dose(s) -- but it has no such effect on the 10-mg strength. For these drugs in particular, making sure that we keep reliable levels of active drug circulating in the blood is essential to prevent clots, strokes, or other events. Hence the rule.
