Get Iodine Level: There are still areas in Brazil with iodine deficiency. If you are iodine deficient and have an enlarging thyroid (goiter) and an underactive thyroid the iodine will likely be helpful and your Synthroid (thyroxine) dose may go down (do not take them at the same time). If you are not iodine deficient depending on the thyroid problem, iodine may actually worsen thyroid function. Get your iodine level checked.
