No: If you are doing it properly, flossing will not separate your teeth. Properly means to just place the floss between your teeth and move the floss up and down lightly on the tooth in front and the tooth behind (don't forget to do the back surface of the last tooth). Do not go side to side. That motion could cut your gums.

Definitely, no: Flossing your teeth is much more important to your oral health than even brushing. Ask your hygienist or dentist for more information.
