Ask for advice: No doc is going to cast a foot that shows no fracture, but if you make a case that you hurt and cannot weight bear, and want his/her expert advice on what to do because you have to (walk, work, whatever)... it is likely that something will be suggested. Meanwhile, there are ankle braces and so called "walking shoes" at drugstores and hospital supply places, and there's always an ace bandage.

Not that Difficult.: There are many other reasons , other than a fracture where wearing a boot is warranted. Included, but not limited to, are sprain, strain, swelling and instability. These are the big ones other than fracture. If the symptoms are somewhat supported by the history and exam, the boot is what you get. If there is a reluctance, then find another doctor. It's just that simple.
