A member asked:

My niece is 4 and her xray says basal pneumonitis.does she need medication?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Xray is nonspecific: Typically "pneumonitis" on an x ray can be viral, so often no meds. The appearance is somewhat stringy rather than the usual bacterial , fluffy, infiltrate. But we as radiologists don't always know exactly what we see and x ray is a blunt instrument anyway. Your provider knows the score clinically so listen to them. Many infiltrates need follow up chest x ray to make sure they clear.
