I was diagnosed with strep via rapid strep test yesterday, as of an hour ago i have taken 3 doses of augmentin out of a 7 day supply of two a day. it seems some of the sores in my mouth are worsening and new ones have appeared on my lips and even below m

CONTINUE: the antibiotic since there may be a "lag" before effective tissue levels are reached...however this MAY mean your lesions are VIRAL..particularly if you have other lesions on your hands/feet. Be patient but check i with the Prescriber if new lesions continue to occur! Hope this helps! Dr z

Strep throat: Most sore throats are due to viruses which won't respond to antibiotics. Strep throat, as proven by rapid Strep test or throat culture will respond to antibiotics but typically, all you need is Penicillin, not broad-spectrum Augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate). With that said, mouth sores are not a common symptom of Strep throat, and definitely not on lips. Best to see prescribing doc for re-evaluation. Go to ER if necessa
