Why do i keep getting strep? 3rd time since 4th of july. on augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate) twice. they want to remove my tonsils. too expensive. i'm a graduate student.

Good question: Have you had a throat culture, not just a strep screen. Sometimes people can have strep infection and also have a resistant staph infection which make an enzyme that interfers with the antibiotics that is trying to treat the strept. Did you take penicillin alone ever? Did that hep or was it ineffecive. That can help answer my suggestion
