Salt water gargles: Any pain kilker, rest and fluids, if no improvement in one or two days, see your doctor, goodluck

Cough drops: Cough drops, honey and syrups can have a soothing effect. Over the counter pain medications may help too. Benadryl (diphenhydramine) is not likely to help.
